Hello, my name is Matthew Carter, owner of Aines, Carter & Associates in Lagrange Ky. which also provides service to the Louisville community. A. C. & A. specializes in Medicare planning. Today we are going to discuss delaying Medicare Part B until retirement and the loss of creditable employer health benefits. The Medicare beneficiary will have 3 months before their Part B effective date or 63 days after the loss of creditable employer coverage to sign up for a Medicare plan. This enrollment period applies to Medicare Part D prescription drug plans and Medicare Advantage plans. Most Medicare beneficiaries delay Part B, if they have a creditable insurance through their employment. By delaying Medicare Part B, they avoid the $170.00 monthly premium and any high- income penalties for money eared during full-time employment. It is also important to note that signing up for Medicare Part B four months or more after you’re 65th birthday does not trigger a 7 month enrollment period.
