Hello, my name is Matthew Carter, owner of Aines, Carter and Associates, in LaGrange, Kentucky. which also provides service to the Louisville community. Aines, Carter and Associates specializes in Medicare planning. Today we’re going to discuss the Initial Enrollment Period and the Annual Election Period, also known as Open Enrollment. The Initial Enrollment Period typically occurs at age 65, or when the beneficiary decides to enroll in Medicare Part B. Medicare beneficiaries have three months before their Part B effective date and three months after to enroll in a Medicare plan of their choice. Initial Enrollment Period lasts a total of seven months. The Annual Election Period occurs between October 1st and December 7th of every year. During this time, Medicare beneficiaries have the opportunity to choose a new Part D Prescription Drug Plan, or Part C Medicare Advantage Plan, for a January 1st effective date.
